Call me CRAZY but I will be making 130 of these little cuties over the next few weeks! My Relief Society President in my ward at church asked me last month if I could help come up with something cute to give to each of the women in our congregation on Mother’s Day. They have about a dollar per person budget to work with so I have been on the lookout at Michael’s and Target but nothing has jumped out at me. Nothing that was “special” enough for a woman on Mother’s Day. You know? ANyway…..I started thinking that I could just make something easily enough and it could also be a “Thank You” to all the fabulous women I have gotten to know at church over the last three years as one of the few “single moms” in the ward (so glad that status changed). AND…Bless my Grandma’s heart….she is going to help me base coat all these after I cut them out on my scroll saw. I am actually looking forward to a day of painting with her like in the good old days! It’s been too long since we sat and “crafted” together! She has always been one of my biggest creative inspirations and has always encouraged me in my talents. I love her for that! I love her for countless reasons!
Do you have someone like this in your life? Someone who has mentored you through the years that saw something special in you? In your talents? Maybe they don’t even know they affected you that way. This week’s challenge/inspiration is to think about that and do something special for that person in gratitude! You don’t have to share what you do but I would LOVVVVE to hear about that special person! I will do a drawing next Friday and giveaway these little wooden heart hangers to THREE lucky winners! So post and share that special person in your life with us!
Oh! COOL news!!

Those hearts are darling!!
My special person, after my mother got her wings, is my mother in law! She’s been nothing but a true gem - always supportive, always understanding. I can call her when I’m sad, or happy, or just feel like chatting - and we have sooo much fun! She always rooted for me as her future daughter in love - even while M and I split up a couple of years ago… and she stayed in touch. She’s a very special lady!

You know I love all your craftiness and your mommy-hood. I am a single mom and keep wishing that one day I won’t be anymore!! There is hardly any single moms in my Church. Honestly I believe I am the only one!! We have a Church of about 200 or so.
Okay my special person….I would have to say is my friend Patti. I met her while working at Walmart in 1998 in the accounting office. She is about 20 years older than me but has always been the person I talk to, confide in and have loved and adored since day one. Even when I quit and moved away she was always there for me to talk to.
I went back to work for Walmart about 5 years ago and quit because they got rid of the accounting office’s hours. I moved along to a new job….and my dear Patti after 30 years of accounting in retail she came to work with me at the new job. She took a huge pay cut and such a leap of faith. Thats what is amazing about this woman…her faith…her faith in God. It makes me be more faithful myself. I was never much of a Church goer. Patti influenced me in a way (along with my little sister). I would ask questions about religion and what not with her, she always answered….there was not a questions she would not answer honestly for me (her husband also happens to be a Pastor at a Nursing home). More on her and her husband…he has dementia also and so many medical issued. All very sad. She stays so strong for HIM and her mom is in a nursing home and she is constantly jumping hoops of fire to take care of her the best she can even when he mother is so negative towards here. She is there for everyone.
She is an amazing woman and I have tears thinking about her just because I know this has been a horrible week on her. She has been so down and I have done many things to cheer her up. I love this woman like my own mother. She is amazingly wonderful. I am able to confide in her and her in me. Never thought I would have such a close relationship with someone at such a different but same stage in life as me. I talk to her everyday at work, on the phone and online EVERYNIGHT, lol. We never stop talking, sharing and caring for one another.
Okay I wrote a book…sorry. It is 3am and my son is restless in bed, lol. So I am UP!

Wow, that’s a huge RS budget–I can’t believe you’re making so many. How charitable of you!! No surprise, but the person who inspires me and creates with me is my Mom. She was primary president for 10 years while I was growing up, and she made everything by hand, posters for every song, handouts, visual aids, on and on, she OWNED that primary. She’s so creative and crafty, yet she marvels over MY scrap stuff, which to me is just fun. Hers was for service. I love that she loves to make and create, and that she passed that on to me!

Shanna, I won’t go into a big long list of reasons why for fear of embarrassing you on your blog. But just let me say that YOU have always been my inspiration through the years. Thanks for loving and supporting me and believing in me. You are so wonderful. I love you!

Shana-Your little hearts are beautiful and your willingness to do this project just shows that in reality you have a great big heart! I’m sure all the mothers are going to love them. Have fun working with your grandma on this project. I’m sure while you’re working you’ll be creating a beautiful memory!
Since my mom died (it’s already been 10 years ago) my aunt has taken on a new special role for me. She is my dad’s brother’s wife - but she and my mom were close and she misses her as much as I do. She’s the one who calls to make sure we’ve had our mammograms and sends me recipes. She’s a lot of un - her laugh cracks me up. I love her and I love her concern for me. She’s such a wonderful person to have in my life. I think I’ll go make her a card and tell her that!

And, you are a saint for making all those hearts. I imagine all the moms will be so jazzed and grateful to receive such a thoughtful gift.
