In[s]piration Friday

…………Is it really Friday again already? Where does the time go? This week’s inspiration isn’t about this layout at all. It’s about the products themselves! I have changed the way I scrap. I have been scrapbooking for as long as I can remember. Seriously. I have a book that I made my Senior year of High School. It’s mostly decorated with Bart Simpson stamps but hey…..there was a major lack of options back then. Unlike today. Today you can easily get overwhelmed with the unlimited amount of products and supplies available to you. So I have changed. I will explain. In the past when I have gone to my local scrapbook store I would always grab a few of the things I NEEDED. And of course a BUNCH of what I DIDN’T need but it was yummy so I got it. This has proven very expensive for me (some of you probably have more self-control than I do) and over the years it has also proven wasteful. I mean who needs a whole 12×12 paper taker full of paper that was popular 2yrs ago? I am done with that. When I went up to Lisa’s last weekend we all ran over to her LSS and did a little shopping. I took my photos with me. I walked around the store and matched up paper and a few embellies that I loved and that was that. Done deal. No scrounging thru files full of paper to find something that matches at home. What’s your system? What works best for you? I am now buying paper as I need it. And it’s going to show in my work. The products out there inspire me like crazy!!! There really isn’t a CHALLENGE this week but I want to hear from you. Share with us how you plan out your layouts. I start with the photos and match paper to it. I am a patterned paper freak. Love it. There will always be some or a lot of it on my layouts. Can’t wait to hear from ya! Have a great weekend!

OH! The WIENER from last week’s challenge is: CARA

Wooooo Hoooo!

When I go in to a store I usually by a magazine and then I look at the paper. I usually by two different brands and all the matching stuff. I come home and put the picture with it right away. This way I know it wont sit in the back of my closet. So, if I ever go to crop or a friends house everything is already in a folder and ready to go. I don’t like looking for my stuff at the last minute and I don’t want my stuff to got to waste.

Yeah!! I am so excited!! Not only because I won something-I never win anything, but because now I get to come to your house and see you! I can’t wait. It’s been to long! I’ll bring Cassidy and Abby and the girls can see each other too!

Hm..I usually sketch them out on paper. I am a sketch ho. I try to start with a picture, but to be honest a lot of time I start with whatever is my fav paper, embellie etc and see if I can match it with what I have. This way I used my stuff up. Although being on 4 DT’s and having 20 some odd layouts to do a month on specific product makes this WWWWAAYY easier.

I know, I know. I’m sad. I don’t plan, really. I just do whatever the pics tell me to do. LOL Seriously, I CASE. LOL And yes, I am shopper who buys what’s pretty so now I have two crates FULL of paper & Bazzill. *cringe*

I, like you, am a collector of ALL Scrapbooking supplies. I work at Archiver’s part time and I don’t think I have ever worked a night without buying something! I have more supplies I believe, than Archivers! My New Year’s resolution is to plan ahead, use what supplies I have, and to learn to just WALK AWAY and say NO! :-) I have learned (the hard way) that things (mostly papers) I feel I HAVE to HAVE because they are so adorable…won’t seem that way in a year! I have so many supplies now that I have purchased a year or so ago and won’t use because there are so many “cuter” things out now! Pays to PLAN your pages AHEAD of time and be ready when you crop. Having things planned out makes it less tempting to purchase more supplies (hopefully!).

  6. Ashley Says:

Well as I have gone through my stash in order to get ready for a garage sale, I have about $250 worth of paper that I have not used! How insane is that. So I now buy on an as need basis. Usually I go into the store and I see paper that I know will go with a photo or I can picture it on an altered item. I am nutso sometimes for sure!

That is a GORGEOUS LAYOUT! Love it Shanna!

  8. Deanna Says:

I don’t have the luxury of a great scrap store near me. So taking the pictures in to match them is tough on me. Add to that the fact that I have a hard time getting out of the house to ever go shopping and you have a serious lack of supplies. So I just buy what I think is fun and fabulous and hope it doesn’t go to waste. But my new years resolution is to use what I actually have before buying more stuff. I have tons of stuff I won’t use buy since I have three out of four girls who love to scrap and make cards I let them use it.

    That layout is BEEEEEautiful!!!

beautiful layout–glad i got to see it irl! when i first started scrapping i had nothing–so i always took my pics to the store with me. got out of that habit and started buying stuff i loved. now i just get my pics out and start browsing through my own stash. i would love to say i started with my pictures first but usually i see a design i love somewhere and then get pitures that i can use with it. then i get paper to match. occasionally i find something that i have to have–paper, embellishment, etc and then i start there.

  10. Lori Says:

Love this layout!!! It’s so girly!!! One of my favorites!!

I’m so terrible at deciding what to scrap, when its time!! I have sooooooo many supplies, and fun stuff, I usually just fly by the seat of my pants and dig through till I find something that inspires me!! That could explain why I am so far behind!!! It takes me forever to dig through and find something!! The real problem is that I still can’t stop shopping for more!! There is just too much good stuff out there!!

  11. Tami Says:

You know your new way used to be my old way — I think I should go back to it. Having to have all the latest and greatest gets costly and then I end up giving the paper away in the end because I know I won’t use it…depressing :^)) So, I think from now on, I’m going to print and then take the pictures to the store with me!! You’ve inspired me once again, girlie!! BTW — love my secret code word Run DMC:

I buy on an as-needed basis. I’m seriously happy if I can spend $5 every other week…thrifty thrifty me! So generally, I use what’s in my supply and if I need something special or I know of certain embies I need, I’ll go buy specifically for that page.
